PRIMARY INTERESTS: BUSINESS OFFICE MANAGERS

EFFECTIVE DATE: OCTOBER 1, 2001

The Health Care Financing Administration has instructed all Part A Intermediaries to include the following message on the Medicare Summary Notice beginning October 1, 2001.This is to comply with the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 requirement that HCFA must inform the patient the amount of Medicare payment.

" The amount Medicare paid the provider for this claim is $______."

The Spanish version is:

"La cantidad que Medicare pagó al proveedor por esta reclamación es $______."
